Daddy: Hey, who made it?
YenYen: I made it! Mom and I.
Daddy: Really? How? What did you use?
Oh! The pride in her eyes and in the tone of her voice as she said, “I made it!” My heart is full.
I have Mom Nessly to thank for this recipe, which I originally saw in her blog post – The Best Play Dough Recipe.
Because my daughter loves playing with clay – I have always been on the lookout for recipes that I could use. While there are several clay-making tutorials out there, this is so far the only one I’ve seen that didn’t require fire. I want to make clay but I didn’t want to use up any gas for it.
If you are like me, this is something that you might want to try as well. No cooking required and with very basic, food grade (read: safe) ingredients. In fact, if you bake, you probably already have all these in your kitchen! Your toddlers will like stirring with you as well, so this is a great way to steer them away from those gadgets. π
Clay Making Ingredients
Mix these all together and knead, knead, knead. To be honest, I find kneading very relaxing, thus I see baking as one of my next things to learn! π Anyhow, our finished product is a bit the smell of siopao, which I loved but made me hungry all the same. So, (not in Mom Nessly’s recipe) I added a few drops of lavender essential oil. Made it smell very relaxing! π Even my daughter, who is very sensitive to smell, loved it, too, and kept on kneading the dough with me.
I used rock salt thus the texture. Works fornus but if you want it really smooth, use the fine ones.
In a week or two, your clay dough may dry out. Don’t panic, just add some water and knead.

Great post as always! I appreciate the link share π I added an oil too pero mga johnsons lang. Mahal ang essential oil kasi. So true with the amoy siopao hahaha.

And thank you Mom Nessly for sharing this recipe with us. Nakakatuwa talaga siya gawin, tsaka yung joy ng daughter ko na siya mismo gumawa ng clay niya! π
